Jamestown Estate Homes created a two-part video detailing best practices in waterproofing a balcony in Houston. In the second video, Spencer Sledge shows us the next steps to keep moisture at bay.
In the video, the siding is now on the house and flashing has been installed behind the siding. Flashing helps ensure that any water that gets behind the siding will drain off the balcony.
Several layers of waterproofing have been installed on top of the subfloor. On top of the underlayment, we installed lathe. On top of the lathe is another waterproofing membrane. After that is installed, we apply a westcoat alx system. This is a cement product that is moisture resistant. In this instance, brick will be installed on top. The westcoat system will help prevent water from penetrating the layers underneath. Together, these steps help in waterproofing a balcony in Houston.
