Jamestown Estate Homes is partnering with Habitat for Humanity in deconstructing homes. Currently we are working on tearing down two homes in the Memorial Village of Bunker Hill in order to make room for new custom homes.
Before we commence the demolition process, we allow the Habitat folks to come through the home, and they make us a list of all of the items that they will take. They take: A/C units, appliances, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and etc. These items typically go to their resale store, which helps to fund their projects. Our project manager, Kurt Gorrell said, “While it may add a bit of time to the tear-down process, it’s nice to know that the materials will be salvaged and used for a good cause instead of just lying in a dump.” With the increasing popularity of “reclaimed” materials, such as brick, it’s worth taking the extra effort to preserve the materials.
